Anne Hathaway and James Corden sang a dramatic love story in 10 romantic pop songs on The Late Late Show's "Soundtrack to a Rom Com" segment on Thursday night (Apr. 20) and it was, well, breathless. In a nod to Julia Roberts' Notting Hill (you know, "I'm just a boy, standing in front of a girl," etc.) the dynamic duo raced through nine sets in one take while singing 10 hits from Footloose, Sixpence None the Richer, Al Green, Biz Markie and Jason Mraz.
Les Miserables star Hathaway knows her way around a tune, so she opened it up with Bonnie Tyler's 1984 smash "I Need a Hero" from the Footloose soundtrack, dashing around a Manhattan set, lattes in hand, furiously checking her phone. The action moved to an elevator where she bumped into Corden, who started crooning the Linda Rondstadt version of "Just One Look," proving he can't keep his hands to himself when they enter the lift and emerge disheveled.
The rest of the bit was a five-minute meet cute romp through the life of a new relationship featuring the good times via Sixpence's "Kiss Me," Mraz's "I'm Yours" as a soundtrack to joint toothbrushing, betrayal by way of the Biz's "Just a Friend," a drunken slide into breakup with Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" and the seeming end with John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane."
