Noah Cyrus Sparks Controversy Collaborating With Rapper Accused of Sexual Abuse

Move over, Miley: The pop star's little sister, Noah Cyrus, just took a crash course in controversy.
On Friday (September 22), the youngest daughter of the Cyrus clan dropped her music video for 'Again,' a spooky, mournful R.a.p.B-pop ballad filmed in a graveyard. It instantly got people talking, but it's not the song or setting that was met with backlash, but rather the other artist featured on the track: rapper XXXTentacion, who is accused of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Fans of the burgeoning music star were frustrated to see Noah, a wealthy white artist and privileged young woman with access to the music industry's best resources, team up with an artist accused of grisly crimes of abuse, included alleged battery of a pregnant woman.
On Twitter, some listeners declared that the collaboration would 'ruin Noah's career' and that they could not support the song because of XXXTentacion's verse. Even fans who were 'rooting for Noah' slammed the decision to include the rapper.
When it comes to collaborating, it's up to an artist to decide who is the best fit for their music and brand… But, like all pieces of consumable media, music both informs and reflects our culture and beliefs. Noah's collaboration doesn't send a good message.
