Bastille frontman Dan Smith has spoken out on why he attended a march in London to protest Donald Trump's ban on Muslim immigration, and his proposed state visit to the UK.
London was just one of many cities around the world that saw thousands take to the streets in protest earlier this week, after the new President put a four-month hold on allowing anyone into the United States who is from the 'Muslim states' of Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia and Libya. Bastille attended the protest before setting off for the sold out leg of their European tour on Monday night.
'In the context of the dangerous and divisive political rhetoric of recent times, it was really heartening to see such a huge group of unified people taking to the streets to protest peacefully and exercise such an important democratic freedom,' Smith told . 'These protests feel like they fly in the face of much of the negativity of recent times, which seems to stem from falsehoods being perpetuated online in an impersonal and removed way.
'It was brilliant to see people caring enough to take to the streets with the sole aim of promoting an inclusive society rather than an exclusive, fearful and divided one.'
