Best American Music Awards Performances No. 18: NSYNC Sing 'Bye Bye Bye' With No Strings Attached at the 2000 AMAs
publish date: 2017-10-25
In honor of the 2017 American Music Awards, is counting down the best performances from the awards show’s history. Here is No. 18.
*NSYNC utilized their sophomore album title No Strings Attached in the video for "Bye Bye Bye," acting as puppets being controlled by a seemingly wicked woman as they danced to their smash hit in the song's opening. Before they even debuted the visual on Jan. 24, 2000 (on TRL, of course), they brought their now-iconic dance moves and real-life puppets of themselves to the AMAs stage on Jan. 17, 2000 -- just without the evil puppetress.
As the performance begins, *NSYNC's massive puppets appear to the tune of Pinocchio's "I've Got No Strings," which flawlessly transitions to a snippet of their song "No Strings Attached." In perfectly dramatic boy band fashion, the puppets collapse as Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrck rise from the floor -- in coordinating get-ups of colored shirts and cargo pants -- and the dancing commences.
