Welcome to the new episode of the Pop Shop Podcast, your one-stop-shop for all things pop on 's weekly charts. In addition, you can always count on a lively discussion about the latest pop news, fun chart stats and stories, new music and guest interviews with music stars and folks from the world of pop.
Casual pop fans and chart junkies can hear co-director of charts Keith Caulfield and editorial director Jason Lipshutz every week on the Pop Shop Podcast, which can be streamed on .com or downloaded in iTunes (click here to listen to the previous Tuesday’s edition of the show on .com).
On the latest show (listen below), we discuss news of the 2018 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations, Sam Smith’s upcoming sophomore album The Thrill of It All and Jason Aldean’s moving performance and statement on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Plus, we’ve got chart chat about Shania Twain earning her second No. 1 on the 200 albums chart with Now (her first studio effort in nearly 15 years), J Balvin and Willy William’s “Mi Gente,” featuring Beyoncé, darting into the top 10 on the Hot 100, and how the late Tom Petty is remembered on the 200 chart as five of his albums return to the list.
As for the 2018 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees, the 19 nominated acts will be whittled down to a more exclusive induction class, which will be announced in December. Earlier this year, seven acts were inducted (six in the performer category, and one under the banner of the award for musical excellence). Who might make the cut for 2018 out of the contenders? The Pop Shop Podcast team discuss some of their personal favorites of the bunch — including Depeche Mode, Eurythmics and Kate Bush — and how Radiohead seems to be the only act of the group that’s probably guaranteed to get into the Hall.
